Keeping Busy While I Shelter in Place

As we are all very aware, we are currently part of a global pandemic. As COVID-19 has completely changed everyone's daily lives, we are doing our best to do our part and shelter in place. Being stuck in the house can make you go a little stir crazy and it can be hard to stay busy.

I have surprisingly not been too bored considering I’m a complete extrovert and I can’t sit still.

If you know me, you know I can barely sit and binge watch shows without getting bored after one episode. So, if you’re anything like me and not being a couch potato here are some things I have been doing to stay busy!

Reading, reading, reading: This is something I have been SO thankful for. I am seriously always trying to read at least 30 minutes a day, but when it comes time, I'm usually too tired and would rather be doing something else. I finished The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware and let me tell you… its one of the BEST books I've ever read. I'm currently reading Long Bright River by Liz Moore and I haven't been able to put it down. Next on my list is The Girl Before by JP Delaney, and I can't wait.

Cooking & baking: These are two things I love to do, but I never get to enjoy because I am always in a rush. This time has really let me enjoy myself and cook things I usually wouldn't.

Exercising: This is something that has definitely been hard for me to stay motivated, but it feels so good to get up and move. During more normal times, I usually go to pilates 4 to 5 times a week. Thankfully my Pilates studio, Club Pilates, has set a schedule for zoom classes and is doing Facebook live workouts. I also have been trying to run, it feels nice to get outside even if its a short distance.

+ Writing: THIS. This is what I have been spending a lot of my time on. I have always wanted to write my blog just as a creative outlet and I have ALWAYS made excuses. But now, I have none. I have been enjoying starting what I have been planning to do for the past four years. It’s a great way to keep me creative and writing.

Puzzles & games: Game nights are HUGE at my house right now. We have been playing everything from Rummy to Operation to Cards Against Humanity. I love games and its such an easy way to pass the time with the people you love most.

Overall, even though this is a scary and weird time in our lives, I do feel like theres a silver lining. We all go through life in such a rush, and we don't make time for the things that matter most like family and our own wellbeing. Take this time to relax, start projects (or finish them), and spend time with your loved ones.

While things remain uncertain, what are all of you doing to fill your time?
